This site is dedicated to the wartime exploits of Alfred Gritton, a regular trooper who served with the British Army in Northern Europe in World War II.

This site was constructed by Alf's son who was inspired by the tribute web site to Ronald Arthur Tee of the 56th Reconnaissance Regiment. The contents of this site are based on transcripts of conversations between Alf and his good friend Mary Vidal throughout the summer of 2000. Mary had the idea to tape Alf's experiences and contribute them to the Second World War Experience Centre, who are collecting as much oral and written history and souvenirs of this time as possible before all the participants are gone. Alf has been asked by many of his friends for copies of his reminiscences and has put down as much information as he can remember.

On this site you will find Alf's recollections of his service life, some photographs from that time and links to other sites that may be of interest. If some of you find mistakes in the detail within, please make allowances as all this happened almost 60 years ago and the memory fades.
